Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother’s Day to my two wonderful mums. We have had the pleasure of both our Mums (with Puli and Mick too) over for lunch today.

Above are the cupcakes I made. Both mums are big frog fans.

I bought pretty sunflowers for the table. I love sunflowers… they are just happy flowers

I had icing left over from the music mini muffins… so I just ‘had’ to make some cupcakes to use it up, much to Andrew’s delight.

I still have a little icing left over… however i’m out of cocoa and after 2 days of entertaining and baking in a row, the kitchen needs a bit of work. Might dig up a simple vanilla cake recipe cause we can’t waste the icing 😀

Musical Mini Muffins

Liz and Sammy came for lunch today to celebrate an early birthday for Liz. I made these mini muffins as a cake… and you guessed it they make ‘Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday to you’ (that is all that would fit)

The icing is a first for me, it required heating sugar to a certain temp/time and mixing with egg whites. I was a little worried about it because all the steps are critical in timing and all done in the period of about 5 min. I got it right and it is really really really yummy…. tastes like marshmellows.

Love my new vacuum cleaner

Just before easter I blew up our old vacuum cleaner (poof smoke and all) while vacuuming up after sewing. It gave us the chance to get a really good vacuum cleaner. My hair combined with thread and fluff makes vacuuming a challenge for any cleaner! A few weeks later and lot of research and a few borrowings of Mum’s vacuum cleaner… we decided on a Meile one. Due to a bit of luck and a nice salesman we got it for $250 less than we were expecting.

I vacuumed the house this afternoon and I just love the vacuum. It isn’t heavy but it won’t tip over and I only ever have to go over an area once including my sewing area. There is no smell or extra dust in the air either so hopefully should be better for our health.

And with the money left over from my $900 government loan…well I need a new Iron.
