Ruffles

I finally got my ruffler foot today! It has been on order since my birthday and I’m over the moon that I finally have it.
Here are a couple of play scraps of material at my favourite setting for a little dress. It ruffles between a really tight gather to soft tiny darts.

I really like the way it ruffles the denim as this is quiet fiddly to do normally.

Teddy Pants

I started these pair of pants before Christmas, however I did the really clever thing of putting the pockets on the front of the pants (yes it was getting late and yes I should know better). So I finally got around to unpicking them and doing it properly.

I got the pockets in the right place but didn’t consider the fact the teddies went over the waist seam. I can sew the shorts/jeans from memory now (not sure if that is a good thing)

A hat

I started this little project before we were meant to be going to the beach. However due to me deciding that it would be a much nicer construction if the inner seams had bias tape over them to seal them it ended up a bigger job (had to create the bias tape first) and then ended in a mess of redoing a couple of the seams because they weren’t perfect. The hat then sat unloved for the last month till tonight I decided to finish it up.

I was originally planning on putting straps underneath the hat that attached with velcro. However it seems Sammy has learnt to keep hats on since then so I decided it wasn’t necessary.

More nappies

In October when I went on a nappy making spree I cut out a few extra nappies but never got around to making them up. I also made up a new design back then but haven’t sewn until now.

First off the old design….

spiderback spiderfront spiderinner

This was the second applique that I did. I was still learning the ropes a bit (well still are). I free sewed the white spiderweb. I think I got the side elastic and gusset elastic in the right spots for this one.

And the denim one…

I placed the pockets too high but oh well :) You can see the new design is square at the front.  This allows less snaps on the wings and while sammy doesn’t get wing droop, I’m trying to get the nappy a little more flexible for a few 2009 babies who won’t be as big. I only had two snaps but Andrew suggested a third to make it really stable. I liked the third so will keep it.

I still have a few nappies of the old pattern to sew up but you should see more of the newer style (with a few more adjustments) in the future.
