Paws and Bones overalls

Here is my next set of overalls.

I made my first ever piping and worked out how to put it into the side seam. I also made up a way to get a backing on the pockets to give them a more outlined effect.

I also got to play with my new double needle. It is a bit fiddly swapping from one needle to two but I really like the even effect and I like the strong zigzag underneath stitch that it makes.

Overall, the star overalls are still my favourite as I was really pleased with the fabric contrast and effect. However these still make a really cute play set.

My first set of overalls

My latest sewing adventure…

These are the first overalls I have ever made. I combined two patterns and customised the patterns to the design I wanted. The legs have snaps up the insides for easy nappy changes. I have also used snaps for the side join and the straps.

I’m really proud of this latest effort. I have worked on it after work in tiny bits and pieces till finally completing it tonight. Every edge is overcast and every seam is correctly and evenly rolled.

Next project… Christmas outfits and nappies…

New sewing toys

Mum and I went shopping today to get my Birthday/Christmas presents and I got some sewing machine accessories to fuel my addictive hobby.

The first one is an even feed foot (walking foot). I will be using it for working with PUL and also when going over large seams (like the 6 layers of denim I have been working with recently). It is also good for knit and stretchy fabrics.

The second box contains a dual needle. I never knew these existed for my sewing machine and had thought you had to have a more advanced one or overlocker. I have been doing all my topstitching twice to get the double effect.

The third one is an overcast foot to make overlocking more precise and make the tension even. This is my present from Angie (my MIL)

The fourth one is a Ditch Quilting foot. It is to keep straight when topstitching across a folded seam.

I also have a ruffle foot on order, you guessed it, it makes ruffles.

There is one other kit that I really want. It is for blind hems, rolled hems and bias tape. I’m sure between other Christmas and Birthday presents, I’ll be able to score it 😀
