Christmas Party

I’ve just returned from my work’s christmas party. What an adventurous but successful afternoon!

The first part of this afternoon was spent on a treasure hunt around brisbane. We were all split into teams and given clues to destinations where we would find more clues etc eventually leading us to our dinner destination. We started at 3:00pm and got to the final destination at 7:45pm. Our journey led through brisbane, up to spring hill then over to southbank, back to riverside and then ended up at Royal on the Park which is near the botanical gardens.

Besides following the clues, there were extra points for taking photos of various clues and also collecting items such as hotel matchbooks.

After spending the afternoon finding all the items, taking all the photos and following all the clues. Although we were the last team to arrive at the destination (it was not a race), we were the winners!!!!!

It was a very long journey, but one thing that kept us going was that we had to beat the team that was mostly comprised of people from england, and there was no way they were allowed to beat us!

There were many times that it would have been easy to throw in the towel and retire early (like a couple of teams did). I’m really proud of my team pulling together, especially when we had to cross victoria bridge after just walking to spring hill and back.

After doing the geeky thing and measuring our journey in google maps, we travelled 9km walking about 7.5 of those and 1.5 being the city cat journey.

One of the bonus photos was to get a photo with a policeman handcuffing a team member. The police were really friendly but unfortunately they are not allowed to for legal reasons. Our team thought out of the box and did score a photo but it is not going up here :)

Bec was finally able to get off her conference call and join the team. We plowed through the clues and walked the way to the mill in spring hill (including the 85 steps!)

We then walked back to the end of the mall and to the new brisbane city council building. We then rested for a little while at the library before continuing on across victoria bridge.

We then journeyed to pick up some sand at southbank then to the city cat for a trip back to riverside.

We reached eagle street at 7:15pm to collect our final clue, which involved walking back to the bottom of albert st.

Oh Christmas tree

Today we finished the touches to our Christmas table.

Lego to the left, soft toys to the right, tree in the middle and speeding train running through everything. We still need to wrap the presents and spread them around too.

New book

I went shopping today!
Bookstores are very dangerous places for me, however I was good and only got Colin Mook’s Actionscript 3 book that I needed, even though I had a pile of others that I also wanted :)

Last night I wanted to use setPixels but couldn’t find any resources on creating a byte array full of the colours I wanted. I was getting an error and when I searched for a solution came across the page after the page I needed in google books listing of the actionscript 3 book. This morning I went into work a little early to borrow one of my workmates copy and decided I probably should get my own.

Amazon is looking very tempting for the remaining books. I’m off to devourer some more information 😀

Happy Birthday to me

Well I’m another year older.

The day started a little earlier then planned when at 2am a possum decided to get into the back patio and knock a tile off the bench so that it smashed on the ground, waking both Andrew and I. Due to the suprise, I ended up not getting back to sleep till 3:30am which made getting up to go to work early at lot harder.

Work was work, but I got through the day without anyone singing happy birthday so that was good.

I had a lovely lunch with Sam in the botanical garderns.

This evening I had the flash platform user group meeting. Yes I know this is an odd thing to do on the evening of a birthday but I had promised to do a presentation 3 weeks ago for it and I enjoy the meetings. Robin Hilliard was there and talked about MVC and I did a presentation on hydra. I also won an adobe thermos to add to my collection of adobe toys decorating the window sill behind my desk at work.

Thanks to Andrew, Mick&Angie, Granny&Grandpa, Mum and Uncle Peter for the wonderful cards and thanks to my guildmates and the various emails wishing me happy birthday. It is nice to feel special for a day :)
