My first blind hem

Dad needed a set of his work pants taken up. Unlike the stuff I have been making where the stitching of the hem is visible for effect, trousers etc have a blind hem. I knew these existed as I had looked at the bottom of my pants before and seen it in the sewing machine manual. After a lot longer than it really should have taken me and a bit of mucking around with calico I worked out which way to fold the fabric to make it taken up to the right spot.

I don’t have a blind hem foot yet but it is in the set I’m next looking at getting. I think it will be a good investment because it is hard to be very precise with just the normal zig zag foot and the tension seemed a little tight.

No pictures because blind hems aren’t very interesting to look at. :)
